VoiceThread is an online media album/slide show that can hold images, documents and videos and allows users to make comments in 5 different ways - using voice (with a microphone or telephone), text, audio file, or video (with a webcam) - and share them with anyone they wish. A VoiceThread allows group conversations to be collected and shared in one place, from anywhere in the world.
Here's a great explanatory video that explains exactly what a voice thread is and how to use it. Click the 'x' next to close then click the play arrow to view the video.

What is Voice Thread?

and two wikis devoted just to VoiceThread, though there are many more.
While free accounts are available, I suggest that you sign up for one first to check it out. You are very limited in the number of voice threads you can do with the free account. However, the pricing is extremely reasonable if you want to upgrade. There is even one option that cost only a one - time $10 fee. To sign up for a free account, ignore the pricing options. Click the 'sign in or register' link in the upper left hand corner, then click the register link in the pop up sign in window. Fill in the form and you have an account. Once you have experienced VoiceThread for yourself and decide it is something that would benefit your students, you can upgrade to an Educator Pro Account for a mere one time fee of $10.00.
